Professional Experience & Education

Dr. Yang obtained his BS in Nanjing University and PhD in Department of Chemistry, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) under the supervision of Prof. Bing Xu, working on synthesis and functionalization of nanomaterials for multifunctional composites. Then Dr. Yang worked with Prof. Matthew M F Yuen in Department of Mechanical Engineering, HKUST, as a post-doctoral research associate working on electronic packaging materials. Dr. Yang also visited the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology as a visiting research faculty member under the supervision of Prof. Ching Ping Wong.

Dr. Yang GSST as an Associate Professor in the Division of Energy and Environment in September 2011.

Research

Prof. Yang has broad research interests that cover multiple multidisciplinary areas; he is particularly interested in advanced electronic materials and miniaturized energy storage technology. Using the toolbox of chemical synthesis and materials engineering methods, Prof. Yang's research focuses on developing novel technologies which have strong impact in both academic and industrial sectors. Current projects have received funding from:

  • Young faculty start-up funding (Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University)

Dr. Yang has published >50 SCI papers in high-level journal including Nat. Commun., Energy & Environ. Sci., Adv. Mater., ACS Nano, Nano Energy, and Adv. Funct. Mater. They have been cited more than 1500 times totally. Dr. Yang also holds over 20 granted patents from Chinese and United states.
